Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups + 2 tbsp cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 6 1/2 tablespoons cubed unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 cup sour cream room temperature
  • 1/2 cup whole milk room temperature
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Mix dry ingredients and butter until it resembles coarse sand.
  3. Add wet ingredients, followed by hot coffee with cocoa powder.
  4. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  5. Cool the cakes before soaking with chocolate syrup.
  6. Frost with chocolate fudge frosting and decorate.

Notes

  • Use a kitchen scale for best results.
  • Don’t overmix the batter.
  • Allow the cake layers to cool before frosting.
